Posts from multiple users and PTI supporters on social media platform X on August 28, 2025, shared a video that allegedly shows senior journalist Suhail Warraich making remarks about Field Marshal Asim Munir. However, Warraich made no such statements, and the video is doctored.
On Aug 16, senior journalist Suhail Warraich published a column about a meeting with Field Marshal Munir and their discussions, which later stirred controversy and even criticism from the military spokesperson. On Aug 29, Warraich clarified that his column had been “misunderstood,” saying it made no mention of May 9, PTI founder Imran Khan or any demand for an apology.
On Aug 28, a video was shared on X by a user, identified as a PTI supporter based on his past posts, in which Warraich can allegedly be heard saying: “When I asked the field marshal for proof of May 9, he made such a face as if I had asked a beggar for a loan.”
The post gathered more than 47,000 views.
The same video, with a similar caption, was widely circulated by other PTI supporters and can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here and here.
The claim was also shared on Facebook by an official account of PTI Chakwal. Other users also shared the same claim as seen here and here.
A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality, increasing circulation and keen public interest in the matter.
A reverse image search led to a Facebook video dated February 2, 2021.
The caption of the video said: “Message from Mr Suhail Warraich on Covid-19: ‘We should take care of ourselves and others in this pandemic, particularly those who need support, cannot afford treatment, or are poor. We can help them if someone gets affected by this virus. Don’t leave people alone in depression and also support them morally.’”
In the video, Warraich can be heard saying: “We, Pakistanis, are very fortunate that we did not face such a severe wave of Covid-19 as in India, Europe, and the US. But this does not mean that Covid-19 is gone. Covid-19 can return. We need to be careful and take special care of those who are helpless, those who cannot afford treatment, and those who are poor. We should help them and not leave them isolated. Instead, we must encourage and support them. By taking care of ourselves, following SOPs (standard operating procedures), and supporting each other, we can fight this disease together. Stay safe, stay healthy.”
In the clip, Warraich is seen wearing the same beige coat with a light blue shirt as in the viral video, but he did not make the remarks attributed to him in the doctored version.
Investigating the viral video further, it was found that it was first shared on Aug 27 by a user whose X bio mentioned AI, and their feed showed that all posts were AI-generated.
The same video was later reposted by another account also producing AI-generated content.
Moreover, a keyword search found that the same quote attributed to Warraich had been shared earlier on Aug 24 but without any video and with a different picture instead of even a screenshot from the video, as can be seen here, here, here, and here. The posts did not mention the source or provide any link to where the quote originated from. Moreover, a keyword search yielded nothing.
The video itself only began circulating on Aug 28.
The claim that a viral video shows journalist Suhail Warraich making remarks about Field Marshal Asim Munir is false.
The video is originally from 2021 and has been doctored.
