Viral video of Nepali man criticising Amitabh Bachchan, Indian media and state on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’

Posts from multiple users on various social media platforms since April 17, 2025, shared a video from popular Indian television show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)’, claiming that a Nepali man exposed the Indian media and state while also criticising host Amitabh Bachchan. However, the video is edited and no such exchange occurred.
The iVerify Pakistan team was alerted on April 19 regarding a post on X and was requested to authenticate the content.
On April 17, a 4-minute and 13-second video was shared on X by a user who, based on their past posts, appears to be a supporter of PTI. The video featured a Nepali national allegedly criticising the Indian media, the Indian state and the host of the show.
In the clip, the host can be heard asking, “Which country’s parliament in 2020 approved a new map of their country showing the Indian territories of Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura as part of it?”
The post was captioned, “In the popular Indian television show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, a ‘Nepali citizen’ allegedly exposed India, the Indian media, and the Indian state, while also sharply criticising Amitabh Bachchan.”
The video gained significant traction, amassing over 159,000 views and 1,100 reshares.
Similar posts featuring the same video can be seen here, here and here with 63,652 views.
Additionally, a longer version of the video was found circulating on Facebook by Indian accounts as can be seen here, here, here and here.
A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and to satisfy the public’s request seeking authentication for the claim.
A keyword search for “KBC”, “Nepali citizen” and “2020” led to a video on YouTube on December 14, 2020. The video, titled “Amitabh Bachchan Faces Tough Questioning from Nepali contestant on KBC,” garnered over 53,000 views.
In the first part of the video, an individual can be seen speaking passionately to the KBC host about Nepal and the Indian government’s treatment of the country, contrasting it with the portrayal in Indian media.
The second part, which was shared on social media, shows a different clip: a Nepali man sitting on the hot seat, against a purple background, accusing the host of asking misleading questions and criticising the Indian government.
Upon comparing both versions, it is noteworthy that the viral video displays the watermark of a video editing tool, KineMaster, whereas the original clip uploaded by the YouTube channel bears its logo, notably masking the Sony Entertainment Television branding.
A background check on the account revealed that the outlet only has a presence on YouTube and lacks a clear description of its activities, further raising questions about its authenticity.

Further investigation through a keyword search based on the question asked during the show led to a report published by India Today on October 10, 2020, which provided details about the original episode.
The report identified the contestant as Mrinalika Dubey, a homemaker who appeared on the October 9, 2020, episode of ‘KBC’ Season 12. Dubey participated as a rollover contestant, ultimately winning Rs2,500,000 before choosing to quit.
Additionally, a keyword search for “KBC”, “Season 12” and “Mrinalika Dubey” retrieved the complete episode uploaded to YoutTube on February 24, 2024.
At the 9:16-minute timestamp, host Amitabh Bachchan asked the following question, “Which country’s parliament in 2020 approved a new map of their country showing the Indian territories of Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura as part of it?”
The original footage features a female contestant, not the Nepali man shown in the viral video. There is no appearance of the individual seen in the viral clip throughout the entire original episode, confirming that the circulated video is edited and misleading.
Another aspect that tips off the edited nature of the video is the fact that the show’s format has the host and the contestant sitting and talking in front of one another while the viral clip showed the alleged Nepali man seated in an area with a different background and not once being shown in frame in front of the host.
The claim that a video shows a Nepali man criticising the Indian media, state and ‘KBC’ host Amitabh Bachchan is false.
The video is edited and such an exchange never occurred.
