Posts from pro-PMLN users on social media platforms on October 15, 2025, were sharing a video claiming to show a female Pakistan Air Force (PAF) pilot who performed the strikes in Kabul amid the recent conflict with Afghanistan. However, the video is old from March 2010 and is unrelated to the current clashes.

On Oct 12, fierce border clashes between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban resulted in the martyrdom of 23 troops and left over 200 Taliban fighters dead, including a number of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists. Both nations claimed to have destroyed the border posts of the other side.

On Oct 14, fighting flared up again between the neighbours in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The next day, on Oct 15, the third major skirmish also took place, with the Pakistani security forces saying an attack by the Afghan Taliban was repulsed in Spin Boldak, killing about 15-20 Taliban fighters.

Meanwhile, Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid said in a social media post that the Afghan forces were “forced to retaliate” after attacks by Pakistani forces in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province. Mujahid claimed that more than 12 civilians were killed and over 100 were injured in the attacks carried out by Pakistani forces with the use of “light and heavy weapons”.

A temporary ceasefire was later agreed to that same day. Shortly before the ceasefire announcement, two explosions rocked Kabul’s Taimani neighbourhood around 4pm local time. The Taliban said the blasts were caused by an oil tanker fire, but residents reported two separate explosions roughly 20 minutes apart. Videos circulating on social media showed a multi-story building engulfed in flames. Kabul Surgical Centre said it had received 40 casualties, including five fatalities.

While Pakistan’s military did not officially claim responsibility, state-run PTV had reported that “precision strikes” had targeted the TTP leadership.

HOW IT STARTED

On Oct 15, a user, who appears to be a PML-N supporter based on her past posts, shared a video on X showing a female PAF pilot flying a jet and dropping a payload.

The caption of the post said: “A woman pilot flew the Mirage that struck Kabul, pride of the nation. Pakistan Zindabad.”

The post gained over 290,000 views.

Another user shared the same video on Oct 15 with the following caption: “Are our girls any less than our boys? By the way, those who imprison women like the Taliban. It was a woman who ‘taught them a lesson’. Brave lady Pakistani pilot.”

The post gained over 54,000 views.

It was also shared by a pro-military account with the following caption: “Pakistan’s daughters have taken over. Only those who have daughters can understand that when a daughter brings happiness to her parents, her level is just different.”

The post gained over 34,000 views.

It was also shared by some users who criticised the pilot for her alleged involvement in the Kabul strikes, as seen here and here, gaining over 80,000 views collectively.

Other users, including Indian accounts, also shared the video in the same context, as seen here and here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in the recent conflict with Afghanistan.

A keyword search to corroborate the alleged role of a female PAF pilot in the Kabul strikes did not yield any news or video report from credible mainstream national, Afghan or international media outlets.

Neither was any press release found from the military or the Foreign Office that detailed the alleged role of any such female pilot in the strikes.

A reverse image search to check whether any such video of a female pilot was released by the military or carried by news outlets also yielded no results.

Instead, a March 8, 2010 YouTube video by international wire news agency AFP with the following title: “Sky’s the limit for Pakistan women fighter pilots” was found.

The video was released on the occasion of International Women’s Day, celebrating the courage and success of Pakistani women in the air force. The video featured Flight Lieutenant Ambreen Gul and highlighted her hard work and dedication in fulfilling her dream of becoming a fighter pilot.

It also mentioned that she piloted a Chinese F-7 jet.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that a viral video shows the female PAF pilot who flew the jet that carried out strikes in Kabul in the recent conflict with Afghanistan is false.
