On April 25, 2024, a video circulating on social media platforms allegedly showed former first lady Bushra Bibi in the past. However, the video is doctored.
Past video of former first lady Bushra Bibi
The iVerify Pakistan team has checked this content and has established that it is false.
To arrive at this verdict, the iVerify Pakistan team critically analysed and investigated the viral video clip.
On April 25, 2024, a 20-second video clip was shared on social media platform X by a PML-N supporter and worker with the caption, “This video is from the time when the mother of youthiyas, Bushra Bibi, was a flexible dancer.”
In the 20-second viral clip, the woman can be heard saying, “I have shared my contact number. If anyone has any concerns or feels hurt by my words …”
The term “youthiya” is a derogatory slur used to refer to PTI supporters.
The post gained 124,000 views.
The same video with a similar caption was shared by another user on X, gaining over 6,000 views.
The post can be seen here.
iVerify Pakistan was also alerted to the clip shared on Facebook as a reel by a user who appeared to be a PML-N supporter with 1,900 likes and 2,000 reshares.
The iVerify Pakistan team sought to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and the keen public interest in the matter, as the video allegedly pertained to the former first lady and PTI founder Imran Khan’s wife.
To investigate the claim, the team investigated the video and found the logo of a digital media outlet which originally uploaded the video.
The digital media outlet named MN Point uploaded the original video on November 21, 2022 to its YouTube channel with the title: “Rabia peerni new interview”.
The woman in the video as per the presenter is named Rabia peerni and is not the same as Bushra Bibi or the woman in the viral clip as clearly evident at a glance.
The viral video thus appears to be a deepfake which generated a video replica of Bushra Bibi and imposed it over Rabia’s face.
Further credence to this is given by the observation that the viral video contains clear distortion around the face and the mouth at the four and five-second marks of the viral 20-second video.
The woman’s face reverts back to Rabia’s at the four-second mark while the mouth is blurred at the five-second mark.
The iVerify Pakistan team has determined that the claim of a past video of Bushra Bibi coming to light is false.
The team found the same video dated back to November 2022 and concluded that the face of Bushra Bibi was doctored in the viral clip through deepfake technology.
