Claim

Video of Trump praising, demanding good treatment of American woman currently in Pakistan

Rating Justification

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is false.

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan observed discrepancies in the clip and conducted a keyword search to crosscheck with any news stories.

A post on social media platform TikTok on February 1, 2025, shared a video of US President Donald Trump praising an American woman who has grabbed headlines in Pakistan. However, the video is a deepfake.

Onijah Andrew Robinson, a 33-year-old American citizen, arrived in Karachi in October 2024 to be with a young Pakistani man after befriending him online. However, according to Robinson, the young man abandoned her saying his family did not agree to their marriage. Videos of her have since been making rounds on social media for her refusal to return home despite interventions from police and a philanthropist.

HOW IT STARTED

The iVerify Pakistan team was alerted on Feb 2 about a video on TikTok and requested authentication for the content.

On Feb 1, a TikTok user, who appeared to be a PTI supporter based on their past posts, shared a clip of Trump alongside a photo of Robinson with the caption: “American woman who was cheated in love demands five thousand dollars every week.”

The video showed Trump praising the woman and calling for her to be treated well. The clip also included his alleged support and praise for PTI founder Imran Khan.

The video gained 1.6 million views, over 23,000 re-shares and over 79,000 reactions.

It was also shared by others on TikTok here, here, here and here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality, keen public interest in developments about the American woman and to satisfy the public’s request seeking authentication for the claim.

An examination of the video showed multiple inconsistencies in Trump’s appearance, indicative of the video being a deepfake generated through artificial intelligence, such as the poor blurry quality of the video, the unnatural separation between Trump’s neck and body, robotic lip movements that did not sync naturally with his speech and distortions in his hair — suggesting possible digital manipulation or deepfake technology.

Reviewing other videos posted by the same account revealed that the identical footage of Trump had been shared multiple times with different audio overlays. This pattern raised further doubts about the authenticity of the original video.

A keyword search for “Donald Trump” and “Onijah Andrew Robinson” was conducted to check if any credible news sources reported on Trump making such a statement, in the American woman or Imran’s support, but yielded no results or videos of any such address.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that a viral video shows US President Donald Trump supporting an American woman currently in Pakistan and calling for her to be treated well while praising Imran Khan is false.

The video is a deepfake generated through the use of AI.
