Posts from multiple users on various social media platforms on June 29, 2025, were circulating a video claiming to show rainwater flooding a hospital ward in Lahore. However, the video is not recent and dates back to August 2024.
Heavy monsoon rains continue to lash various parts of Pakistan, causing widespread disruption. Several cities in Punjab, including Lahore, Chakwal, and Dera Ghazi Khan, recorded significant rainfall. Authorities have issued urban flooding warnings and urged the public to take precautions as the rain spell is expected to continue until July 1.
On June 29, a video was shared on X by a user who appeared to be a PTI supporter, based on his past posts and cover photo. The video showed rainwater in a hospital ward.
The caption of the post read: “This situation is not of Sindh but of Maryam Nawaz’s Punjab capital, Lahore, where the wards are filled with water.”
The user further added, “Maryam Nawaz has completely ruined Punjab.” The post was viewed more than 133,000 times.
The same video, with a similar claim, was also shared by a Lahore-based local journalist on X, and his post was seen by over 170,000 users.
Several other PTI supporters shared the same claim on X as can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here and here, collectively gaining over more than 75,000 views.
The same video was shared on Facebook by an account of PTI Central Punjab, where it received more than 29,000 views. Another Facebook post with a similar claim garnered 11,000 views and 3,600 reactions.
The video was also circulated on TikTok by a PTI supporter, where it gained over 45,000 views.
A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in the Punjab government’s performance during the rains.
A reverse image search led to a YouTube video titled “Lahore Hospital”, uploaded on August 2, 2024. The video featured the same clip that has gone viral.
Further investigation led to an X post shared on August 1, 2024, by a journalist affiliated with Hum News. The caption of the post said: “Shoaib … tell madam CM that Lahore’s Services Hospital is flooded … patients are suffering … rainwater has reached the wards … madam and the staff still haven’t arrived.”
The post included a 42-second video clip that, although filmed from a different angle than the viral video, showed the same scene and key individuals. Such as a man wearing a yellow shalwar kameez, seen walking in the viral video, is shown sitting on a hospital bed in the 42-second clip. Similarly, a woman in a yellow shalwar kameez and black dupatta, seen standing in the viral video, is shown walking in the longer clip.
A keyword search for “Services Hospital”, “rainwater” and “entered” and relevant news coverage led to a bulletin clip from Dawn News dated August 1, 2024, titled “Heavy Rain in Lahore: Rainwater Entered Services Hospital Lahore.”
In the report, the correspondent updated on the overall situation of heavy rainfall across Lahore and specifically mentioned the situation at Services Hospital. The same video footage was shown alongside the report on-screen.
The video was also aired by several other news channels on the same day, including Aik News, and 92 News as part of their coverage on Lahore’s record-breaking rainfall.
Searching for news stories on the heavy rainfall in Lahore led to a news story published by The Nation on Aug 1, 2024, with the headline, “Heavy rainfall in Lahore breaks 44-year record”.
According to the news report, “On August 1, 2024, torrential rains lashed Lahore, with the city receiving 350mm of rainfall in just three hours, breaking a 44-year record. The heavy downpour led to severe urban flooding, with water entering the emergency wards of Services Hospital and Mayo Hospital, causing distress to patients and disrupting hospital operations. Several areas in Lahore were submerged, homes in Tajpura were flooded, and widespread power outages were reported.”
Leading English publication Dawn and Geo News also reported that rainwater entered the emergency wards of Services Hospital and Mayo Hospital in Lahore during the record-breaking heavy rainfall.
The claim that a viral video shows rainwater entering a hospital ward in Lahore amid the recent heavy rains is misleading.
The video is not recent and dates back to August 2024, when a 44-year rain record was broken in the city, and water entered Services Hospital.
