To arrive at this verdict, the iVerify Pakistan team investigated the video and sourced the original post.
On April 25, 2024, iVerify Pakistan received an alert from the public tipline seeking authentication for a claim.
The individual sending the tip said they saw an X post sharing a video of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and her husband, Captain Safdar, on a plane, with people holding pictures of PTI founder Imran Khan around her.
The video was posted on X by a user who appeared to be a PTI supporter based on his past posts and gained over 22,000 views.
The caption for the post said: “Wherever they go in the world, they will see Imran Khan in front of them.
Now they will even see Imran Khan in their dreams.”
The team investigated the virality of the video on X and found no other instance of people sharing it.
The iVerify Pakistan team initiated an investigation into the video to determine if the events depicted actually happened or not and satisfy the public’s query for clarification on the matter.
The team scrutinised the video frame by frame and concluded that the video of CM Maryam and her husband on a plane surrounded by people with Imran’s pictures is a doctored video, evident from a noticeable abrupt cut at the two-second mark.
Subsequently, the team conducted a reverse image search and located the original video on TikTok shared by user malik_sahil016/Malik_Sahil891 on April 24.
Within the comments section, numerous users enquired about the video’s authenticity, prompting the TikTok user to respond to one of the comments, acknowledging that it is indeed an edited video.
The iVerify Pakistan team has determined that the video showing CM Maryam and her husband in a plane whilst people hold Imran’s pictures around them is doctored and the claim is false.
The original creator of the video himself admitted to it being edited.
