TV host Tabish Hashmi not shot dead, is ‘alive and happy’

To reach this conclusion, the iVerify Pakistan team reached out to the public relations team of TV host Tabish Hashmi to corroborate the matter.

The iVerify Pakistan was alerted to a post on social media platform X on August 1, 2024, about TV host Tabish Hashmi shot dead. However, the famous comedian himself said he was “alive and happy”.

HOW IT STARTED

The iVerify Pakistan team was requested authentication for and alerted about a post on social media platform X on August 1 about the alleged death of famous TV host and comedian Tabish Hashmi.

The post shared a picture with the following message on a picture of Hashmi: “The poor man had three little daughters and a small guest was also on the way who has not even seen his father yet. The well-known show[business] star Tabish spoke a few words in praise of Imran Khan in his show yesterday. After that, a black Vigo stopped him on his way home, shot him and left. This is the state of our country.

METHODOLOGY

A fact check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim to satisfy the public’s request for authentication

A reverse image search conducted led to a July 17 video posted on social media platform TikTok. The video had 2.3 million views and over 36,000 likes.

However, considering the date the TikTok video was posted, there was no evidence found of the alleged development in the mainstream press or entertainment news. Furthermore, Hashmi continued doing his programme ‘Hasna Mana Hai‘ on Geo News in July.

Reaching out to his team for a comment on the claim yielded a response from the host himself who said: “I’m alive and happy. That is a rumour,” referring to the online posts.

He further clarified, “I don’t have three daughters as claimed by the video. I have a daughter and a son, and we are also not expecting another child.”

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim regarding renowned TV host Tabish Hashmi being shot dead outside his home is false. The comedian himself confirmed the matter as being a farfetched fabrication.
