Quote attributed to Indian PM Modi about criticising Pakistani military
The iVerify Pakistan team investigated the claim and determined that it is false.
To reach this conclusion, the iVerify Pakistan team conducted a reverse image search to trace the original post.
Posts from multiple users across various social media platforms since April 21, 2025, shared a post from digital news outlet Siasat.pk which allegedly attributed a quote to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticising Pakistani generals. However, the post is fake and he never made such a statement.
On April 21, an X user, who appeared to be a PTI supporter based on his past posts and profile picture, shared an alleged post from Siasat.pk that featured a quote of Modi criticising Pakistani generals.
The quote said, “Look at the medals on generals — it’s as if they’ve conquered the entire world. And yet, the reality is they can’t even secure oil from Iran or Russia. What’s a nation supposed to do with such a massive army, when all they’re interested in is land plots and nothing more?”
The post was viewed by over 112,000 people.
The same claim was shared by other users on X as well as can be seen here and here.
The same claim also spread across other social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality, keen public interest in statements from Indian officials about Pakistan and the serious nature of the claim, involving a demeaning statement for the military by Modi.
A reverse image search to trace the origin of the post and check whether Siasat.pk had shared anything similar yielded no relevant results. Keyword searches were also carried out in both English and Urdu, but no related post was found.
Notably, the post also did not feature a QR code linking to the source of the alleged quote. The platform had adopted the practice on January 30 to curb fake and impostor posts.
A keyword search for “Modi”, “criticism” and “Pakistani generals” in credible Indian and Pakistani news outlets to determine if any media organisation had reported such a statement also did not yield any results.
Instead, it was found that the same claim had been circulated in previous years as well.
The claim that Siasat.pk shared a post with a quote of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticising Pakistani generals is false.
The post is fake and there is no evidence for Modi having uttered such a statement.
