Images of Katy Perry attending the Met Gala 2024 began doing the rounds on social media on May 6, 2024.
An X user shared a picture on May 7 with the caption, “Katy Perry looks absolutely gorgeous on Met Gala 2024.”
The post gained 4.8 million views.
Another image of her was circulating wearing a floral gown.
An X user said: “Katy Perry Met Gala 2024” with her picture. The post gained 31,200 views.

The iVerify Pakistan team initiated an investigation into the images of the American popstar Katy Perry due to their high virality and because some reports were questioning the authenticity of the images.
The team went to Perry’s official Instagram account and found a May 7 post whose caption said, “Couldn’t make it to the Met, had to work.”
Sharing the viral images, Petty also shared a screenshot of an exchange with her mother. The exchange is reproduced below:

The popstar thus herself confirmed that she never went to the event and the images were AI-generated.
