The iVerify Pakistan team reviewed this content and determined that it is false.
To reach this conclusion, the iVerify team reviewed pop star Dua Lipa’s official Instagram account to trace the original picture.
Posts from multiple users on social media platform X on September 12, 2025, shared a picture of the pop star wearing the Pakistan cricket team jersey ahead of the Asia Cup match with India. However, the picture is doctored.
Spinners led by Kuldeep Yadav helped India beat Pakistan by seven wickets in the Asia Cup on Sept 14 as the neighbours met on the cricket pitch for the first time since a military conflict between them in May.
India resisted calls to boycott the match between the nations, who had not played in any bilateral series since deadly attacks in Mumbai in 2008 were blamed on Pakistan militants.
On Sept 12, an X user who appears to be a fan of the Pakistan cricket team from his past posts, posted an image of Lipa wearing a PCT jersey with the caption “Dua Lipa shows her support for Pakistan cricket team in the ongoing Asia Cup.”
The post was viewed over 221,400 times and liked 4,900 times.
The same image was widely reshared across multiple platforms, including X, Facebook, and Instagram as can be seen here, here, here, here, here, collectively gathering over 15,000 views.
A fact check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in the match.
Conducting a reverse image search yielded multiple edits of the image with Lipa wearing shirts of different colours or flags, as can be seen here in photos featuring Indian Premier League team Punjab Kings and Ecuador’s national football team.
Reviewing Lipa’s official Instagram account yielded the original photo, a mirror selfie in a plain white T-shirt, posted on August 29, 2025.
Comparing the two images showed that they had the same background and Lipa in the same posture, cellphone and bag, with the only difference being the T-shirt she was wearing and the length of the sleeve.
The claim that a viral image shows pop star Dua Lipa wearing a Pakistan cricket team jersey is false.
The image is doctored as the original shows her wearing a plain white T-shirt.
