Viral video does not show Major Adnan Aslam’s father chanting slogan in Imran Khan’s support

Posts from multiple users, including PTI supporters, on social media platform X on September 10, 2025, shared a video of martyred army officer Major Adnan Aslam’s coffin being taken for his final rites, claiming that his father chanted “Imran Khan Zindabad” in the clip. However, the man is not the officer’s father and he actually raised the slogan “Adnan Khan Zindabad”.

Claim

Viral video of Major Adnan Aslam’s father chanting slogan in Imran Khan’s support

Rating Justification

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is false.

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan thoroughly analysed the video and conducted a keyword search to find the original source.

Major Adnan, 31, was critically injured during an attack in Bannu by the banned militant Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan group on Sept 2. He was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. His funeral prayers were held in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, on Sept 9.

The funeral was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Atta Tarar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Gen Syed Asim Munir and other senior military and civil officers.

HOW IT STARTED

On Sept 10, an X user, who seems to be a PTI supporter from previous posts, shared a video showing army officers carrying Major Adnan’s coffin as a crowd showered flowers on them and a man, who was claimed to be his father, chanted slogans.

The caption said, “Breaking news: The father of martyred Major Adnan Aslam also raised the slogan of ‘Long Live Imran Khan’.”

The post garnered 249,800 views and was reshared 5,900 times, while amassing 16,000 likes.

The video, with a similar claim, was also shared by other users on X as can be seen here, here and here.

The clip was shared on YouTube as well by Pakilink News, a page that describes itself as a digital news outlet, with the title: “Martyr Major Adnan Aslam’s father raises ‘Imran Khan Zindabad’ slogan”.

The description of the video said: “Watch the emotional moment when the father of martyr Major Adnan Aslam raised the slogan ‘Imran Khan Zindabad’ during his statement. This video highlights the powerful sentiments of Pakistan’s people and their support for the former prime minister.”

The post gained 147,754 views.

The clip was also shared on other social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook with the same claim as can be seen here, here, here and here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in the matter.

Closely listening to the video clearly showed that the man chanting slogans in the video actually said “Adnan Khan Zindabad”. He also raised other slogans such as “God is the Greatest” and “Pakistan Zindabad”.

Checking for better quality footage of the same scene yielded clearer videos, where the audio could be more precisely heard with the person indeed taking the name of the martyred officer and not the PTI founder.

A keyword search yielded an interview of Major Adnan’s parents aired by Urdu Point, which showed that the man, who raised slogans in the viral video, was not the father of the martyred officer.

The caption of the video said: “‘He died to save his friend’: Meet brave parents of martyr SSG Commando Major Adnan Aslam”.

Photos of Major Adnan’s funeral run by state-run Associated Press of Pakistan and Radio Pakistan also showed the army officer’s father — as shown in the Urdu Point video — attending the funeral held on Sept 9.

 .

Moreover, a reverse image search led iVerify to social media posts on social media platforms that claimed that the man who chanted slogans was the father-in-law of Major Adnan, as seen here, here and here.

A keyword search yielded an interview of his to media outlet Discover Pakistan wherein he can be heard referring to the martyred officer as his nephew.

Further evidence that the man in the video did not utter a slogan in the PTI founder’s support is that the same video was shared and praised by PML-N supporters and pro-military users, as can be seen here, here and here, without any mention of Imran.

Mainstream and credible media outlets that widely shared the video also did not link it to Imran Khan in any way.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that a viral video shows the father of martyred army officer Major Adnan Aslam chanting slogans in support of the PTI founder is false.

The man in the video is not Major Adnan’s father, but a relative, and he actually said “Adnan Khan Zindabad”.
