Viral video of Japanese woman harassed by Pakistani men in Tokyo

Rating Justification

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is false.

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan conducted a reverse image and keyword search to find news stories regarding the incident.

Posts from multiple Indian accounts on social media platform X since August 11, 2025, shared a video, claiming it showed three Pakistani men harassing a woman in Japan. However, the clip is from 2021, and the men are not Pakistani nationals.

HOW IT STARTED

On August 11, an X user based in India shared a video of a woman looking visibly uncomfortable as a couple of men hound her on a street while she is filming herself.

The post was captioned: “Japanese woman sexually harassed by three Pakistani nationals in Tokyo, Japan.”

It did not provide any other details or context of the alleged incident or give a link to any source or news article about the incident.

The post gained 3.8 million views and was reshared 8,300 times.

The video with the same claim was shared here, here and here, racking up 287,000, 98,000 and 24,000 views.

Other shares of the same claim can be found here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in the involvement of Pakistani migrants in any criminal activity.

A reverse image search yielded a YouTube video from June 19, 2021, featuring a longer version of the video.

The video appeared to be a live-stream, as evident from the active comment box on the bottom left corner.

Further investigation led to a Sportskeeda report dated August 22, 2021, which used a screengrab from the same video in its thumbnail.

The article, titled “Twitch streamer harassed on livestream as stranger forces her hand off her chest,” detailed that the incident occurred in June 2021 in Japan, involving a Twitch streamer named Sushi Potato, who was approached by male fans asking for a photo.

While posing, she was repeatedly asked to take her hand off her chest, and at one point, the men tried to move it forcibly.

Nowhere in the report was the nationality of the men mentioned. A keyword search related to her case also yielded no follow-up news reports about whether she filed a police complaint and whether the men were arrested or their nationalities determined.

Furthermore, a review of social media discourse from the time of the original incident revealed no association of the men with Pakistanis.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that a viral video shows Japanese women being harassed by Pakistani men is false.

There is no evidence confirming that the men in the video were Pakistani, since coverage of the 2021 incident identifies no such link, while online discourse at the time also made no association with Pakistanis.
