Israel launched wide-scale air strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities, military sites and private residences, killing top commanders, scientists and hundreds others on June 13. Both countries traded wave after wave of devastating strikes and missile volleys since then.
On June 20, an X user posted a clip of a group of people arriving at an airport chanting in their foreign language and carrying a huge Palestinian flag.
The post was captioned: “Israelis arriving at Greek airports are being ‘welcomed’ with Palestinian flags — a powerful show of solidarity from local activists as tensions rise over Israel’s actions in Gaza.”
The post was viewed 45,000 times.
The video with the same claim was shared here, here, here, here, here and here, gaining 3.2 million, 3.8m, 495,000, 377,000, 158,000 and 32,000 views, respectively.
A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in the Iran-Israel conflict.
A reverse image search yielded an Instagram post from an account called “March to Gaza – Greece”, featuring the same video, dated June 17, 2025.
The caption of the video said: “The Greek mission March To Gaza has just returned to Greece only pride for all they tried, all they achieved. Only pride for the race that has started and will continue until the end. With Palestine until freedom with Palestine, with the struggle, with solidarity, with justice.”
A keyword search for “March to Gaza Greece” led to a June 18 report from Greek news outlet News247, titled, “March to Gaza: The mission returned to Greece”.
According to the report, the members of the Greek delegation participating in the Global March to Gaza initiative arrived at Athens International Airport on June 17 holding Palestinian flags after they were forced to halt their march to the besieged territory following days full of obstacles, arbitrary detentions, deportations and violent repression faced by the activists in their attempt to break Israel’s suffocating siege on Gaza.
The claim that a viral video shows local activists in Greece receiving Israeli refugees amid the fighting with Iran with pro-Palestinian chants is false.
The video actually shows pro-Palestinian Greek activists returning back to the country after being deported from Egypt and not being allowed to march to Gaza.
