Viral video showing Pakistani actors kissing in drama scenes is a deepfake

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is false.

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan conducted a reverse image search to find the original source.

Posts from multiple users on social media platforms since December 19, 2024, shared a video showing Pakistani actors kissing during two drama scenes. However, the scenes have been manipulated with the help of deepfake technology and the original footage shows no kissing.

HOW IT STARTED

The iVerify Pakistan team was alerted on Dec 20 about a post on X and requested authentication for its content.

On December 19, a fan account for anchor Mansoor Ali Khan shared a 15-second video of two drama scenes showing Pakistani actors kissing each other.

The post was captioned: “What has happened to the Pakistani drama industry? It is breaking new records for obscenity and nudity. Where is Pemra? Where is the law?”

The post gained 246,000 views.

The video was also widely shared by other users as can be seen here, here, here, and here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality, the potential for harm to the actors due to any controversy from the scenes eliciting anger from the public and to satisfy the public request seeking authentication for the claim.

A reverse image search for the first clip in the video yielded an Instagram video from the official page of entertainment media channel Hum TV, dated May 04, 2024.

The clip featured a behind-the-scenes moment with actors Durefishan Saleem and Bilal Abbas standing together, surrounded by the crew. At no point during the video did it show them kissing.

A reverse image search for the second clip in the video yielded a drama episode on the official YouTube channel of Geo Entertainment titled “Jaan Nisar Ep 28”.

The scene, which appears between 1:50 and 2:50, shows no instance of actors Danish Taimoor and Hiba Bukhari kissing.

Therefore, the lack of any kissing scenes in the original footage suggested that the viral video was a deepfake whereby the original footage was edited through the use of artificial intelligence to introduce kissing scenes into it.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that a viral video shows actors kissing during scenes in Pakistani dramas is false.

The original scenes, sourced from Pakistani dramas ‘Ishq Murshid’ and ‘Jaan Nisar’ respectively, did not show the actors kissing and were manipulated using deepfake AI technology.
